The Energy Efficiency Policy Training Week

Smart Cities
IEA Room 1a

The aim of this course is to enable policy makers at the national and city level gain a better understanding of relevant energy efficiency policies and digital tools to reduce urban energy consumption while improving municipal services and quality of life for all. Digitalisation creates new sources of data on air quality, energy consumption, geospatial information and traffic patterns, which can help cities make smarter, better-informed decisions, especially on issues relating to sustainable urban planning and operations. Synthesising these new streams of information can help improve the operation and efficiency of urban energy systems. From an overall picture of how the urban system consumes energy, the course will look at how city-level authorities can make full use of efficient and smart energy solutions in: integrated planning, distributed energy resources, buildings, transport, streetlighting and water management, industry perspectives and rebuilding more efficient and resilient local power systems. Through interactive discussions, group activities, strategy games and case studies, participants will co-create solutions to scale up energy efficiency in the urban environment aided by appropriate digital solutions.
