Description

Ghislaine Kieffer is a policy analyst at the International Energy Agency in the Energy Efficiency division. She leads the work of the IEA on smart and sustainable cities and supports the IEA Digital Demand-Driven Electricity Networks (3DEN) initiative. She has twenty years of experience in various international organisations in the field of clean energy policy through a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects combining international, national and city level perspectives. In recent years, she has authored several reports analysing the contribution of clean energy policies in the transition to a decarbonised future, with a focus on the role of cities. Through the viewpoint of cities, she has gained a more granular understanding of smart and sustainable urban energy systems. Urban form and buildings shape path dependencies in terms of energy and climate and represent a unique opportunity for carbon-lock out, especially in new urbanising areas. Her work aims to inform more effective and inclusive policy interventions across buildings, local grids and transport systems, and supporting alignment across tiers of government.
