Description
Dr. Satish Kumar serves as the President and Executive Director of the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE), India’s leading ecosystem enabling, energy efficiency organisation. Dr. Kumar is an international expert on thermal comfort, passive cooling design and integrative building design incorporating sustainable building design with low-energy cooling technologies and is committed to help reduce the cooling energy intensity by more than 50% through mainstreaming and mass adoption of the passive and active cooling strategies. He has been part of the leadership team on national and international initiatives such as the development of the India Cooling Action Plan for India’s MoEFCC which was the first national cooling action plans developed by any country, National Cooling Action Plan Methodology developed in partnership with The Cool Coalition and is being used by many global south countries to develop respective national cooling action plans, Global Cooling Prize that aims to bring to market room air-conditioners that have 5x less impact on climate than conventional RACs, Solar Decathlon India that is the world’s largest net-zero energy building capacity building program, India’s Energy Conservation Building Code that can influence 50% of the yet to be built commercial buildings in India and the India Cooling Strategy for K-CEP, now Clean Cooling Collaborative (CCC). Prior to AEEE, he was the Energy Efficiency Ambassador and led the Energy Management business at Schneider Electric India and has worked as a Scientist at the US Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the USA. He is a LEED Fellow. He serves as a senior energy efficiency advisor/technical expert to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, NITI Aayog, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, and Department of Science and Technology (DST), Airport Authority of India. Dr. Kumar has served on Montreal Protocol ‘s Energy Efficiency Task Force, Steering Committee of the Cool Coalition and the 5x Advisory Group constituted by the CCC. He has a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon and a B. Arch from IIT Roorkee. He has authored more than 150 book chapters, journal, conference papers and industry reports
