Description

Ms. Ashanti Mbanga currently serves as Project Manager at the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI), where she leads a team that implements energy and environment projects, including the Department of Mineral Sources and Energy-commissioned EE Appliance Standards and Labelling (S&L) Programme. Her passion for developing fellow youth members is highlighted by the mentorship of interns in her organisation. In 2022, the DMRE awarded Ms. Mbanga’s efforts of promoting gender equality and woman empowerment in the energy sector as she also fulfils the role of Vice-Chairperson at the South African Association for Females in Energy Efficiency (SAFEE). Her strengths lie in technical research, policy development, capacity building and communications in the energy sector. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Transport Economics from the University of Johannesburg, and is currently pursuing her Post Graduate Diploma in management at the University of Witwatersrand. She is Certified by the University of Cape Town in Energy Efficiency and Sustainability and has obtained her Advanced Business Project Management Certification from the Witwatersrand School of Business. Ms. Mbanga is also a Danida Fellowship Centre Scholarship Alumni where she obtained her certification for studies in Climate Change Adaptation, Mitigation and Resilience action planning. She aspires to continue initiating solutions to foster energy efficient and environmentally sound practices in South African policy making and businesses as well to influence South African citizens in making sustainable lifestyle choices.
