Description
Jo Cops became IEC President on 1 January 2023, for a three-year term, having served as President-Elect since 1 January 2022. Prior to that, Mr Cops served as Treasurer from 1 January 2018 until the end of 2022.
He has had a distinguished career in industry. Mr Cops was the Director of Industry Relations at Niko, a European leader in home automation. He began his career with Sony Belgium and subsequently held various management positions within Sony Europe, followed by senior positions at Telenet (Liberty Global) and Alpha Technologies Europe, with responsibilities pertaining to sales, marketing and strategic planning.
Mr Cops led the Belgian Electrotechnical Committee (CEB-BEC) as the Secretary-General from 2012 to August 2021. He has a master’s degree in engineering and electronics.
When Jo is not at work, you will probably find him around the tennis court or singing Renaissance and Baroque music in one of several vocal ensembles.
The IEC President represents the Commission and is the Chair of the General Assembly, the IB (IEC Board) and the PresCom (President’s Committee).
